Pain and Performance Solutions utilizes advanced techniques in muscle therapy, such as ART®, NKT™,  SFMA™, P-DTR® and AiM to treat a variety of different muscle and joint issues.

My background as an engineer gave me a foundation for understanding the principle of “root cause analysis” in a problem. I utilize several methodologies in addressing movement issues within the body. Each of these disciplines have unique elements that are very effective, especially when applied in concert.

These systems of addressing functional movement are also in use by professionals whose entire career are dependent upon their body functioning at optimal levels. I bring these systems along with my training as an engineer to my clients everyday to help them resolve their issues in their body’s structural system.

You can read more about each of these techniques below.

Active Release Technique®

Active Release Technique® is an advanced soft tissue treatment developed by former engineer turned Chiropractor, Dr. P. Michael Leahy. After chiropractic college Leahy studied his patient’s movements. Before long, he realized by combining engineering principles with his knowledge of biomechanics he was developing a new strategy for the treatment of muscles. Colleagues who witnessed Dr. Leahy’s impressive clinical results convinced him to hold a seminar in 1988 – and thus Active Release Technique® was born.

What is it?

I like to describe ART® as a medical treatment for muscle. It should be the first thing attempted when someone is experiencing pain or discomfort in a muscle or joint. Learn More

Anatomy in Motion

Anatomy in Motion, or AiM for short – is a complete road map to the structure of the human body, with no stone unturned. AiM philosophy is founded on principles of movement that are influenced by our most primal, repetitive, and fundamental movement: walking (or gait). While many techniques (like the SFMA) are excellent at assessing the larger areas of our body (hip, pelvis, knee, thorax, head) few offer the insight into the foot that AiM provides. Why is knowledge of the foot so critically important? Let’s explore that thought… Learn More

NeuroKinetic Therapy™

To use a crude, but effective analogy:

If combating muscular dysfunction were compared to waging war – ART® could be thought of as a bomb, devastatingly powerful when it hits the target. NKT™ upgrades those bomb’s to have laser-guided precision.

ART® alone is incredibly powerful at relieving excess tension – I know from experience as a patient and as a practitioner myself. However, knowing what we know about how dysfunctional patterns occur – sometimes releasing a muscle with tension isn’t good enough…it just comes back later. NKT™ allows the ART®  to be applied more effectively and eliminate a pattern entirely. Learn More

Proprioceptive – Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR®)

Proprioceptive – Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR®) is a product of the original thought and investigations of orthopedic surgeon Dr. José Palomar.

This work recognizes that proprioception (sensation of touch, pressure, hot, cold, pain, etc.), and the way the body processes the information from these receptors, is paramount in determining neuromuscular responses throughout the entire body. Motor function is not just determined by the motor system, but rather is modified by the inputs of these receptors.

Using a comprehensive system of muscle testing and neural challenges, involved receptors can be located and normal function can be quickly restored. Most physical therapy and other therapeutic modalities deal with the “hardware” of the body, neglecting the fact that much of the pain and dysfunction we experience is often actually a problem with our “software”. Learn More

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA™)

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA™) is a series of 7 full-body movement tests. These tests are relatively simple to execute, but they lay the groundwork for a series of more complex tests that gradually provide a complete roadmap for treatment.

Treat pain last – fix movement first

For the longest time treatment has focused mainly on the site of pain, however the cause of pain is often a completely different location. This phenomenon is known as regional interdependence – one area of the body affecting the function and muscular recruitment of another area of the body. Learn More
